Do algorithms contribute to a more just world? If so, when, why, and in what circumstances; if not, why not.

Moral relativist Response

There is no right or wrong answer to this question since morality is relative. Some people may believe that algorithms do contribute to a more just world because they can help to level the playing field in terms of access to information and opportunity. For example, if a person is looking for a job, an algorithm can help to match them with open positions that they may not have otherwise known about. In other cases, algorithms may be used to help identify individuals who may be at risk for certain diseases or conditions so that they can get the treatment or help they need.

On the other hand, some people may believe that algorithms do not contribute to a more just world because they can perpetuate biases and inequalities. For example, if an algorithm is designed to match people with jobs, it may favor those with certain skills or experience that are more likely to be held by people from privileged backgrounds. Additionally, algorithms may be used to target ads and content to individuals based on their personal data, which can result in people only being exposed to information that reinforces their existing beliefs and values.
