I love product design and nothing makes me happier than creative solutions to problems I didn’t know I had. The best products, in my opinion, should be like a breath of air, completely necessary but equally unnoticed. A product that inhabits this philosophy perfectly in my day to day life is my Sketch Wallet. It is a rather large wallet that contains a small sketchpad and it never leaves my back pocket. Before I got this wallet I often couldn’t get points across in conversation or even felt bummed because I had a creative urge and nowhere to vent that impulse. That all changed with the simple idea of integrating a sketchbook into a wallet. This removed the need to intentionally bring the most essential tool of a designer because it would always be by your side. Provided you don’t forget your wallet of course.
The wallet not only is a great example of what I love to see in products but is an amazing reflection of my life. Within the sketchbook, I have many product sketches, personal drawings, checklists, quotes and more. The wallet also contains many important mementos that I always carry with me and are far more valuable than any currency that accompanies them. These include but are not limited to poems written for me, drawings, and an illustration of an elephant being digested by a boa constrictor.
