Jem Cohen’s Lost Book Found

Jem Cohen’s Lost Book Found was very analytical but also a poetic documentary. It recounts the events leading up to Jem Cohen coming into contact with an old composition notebook filled with obsessive listings of places, objects, and incidents, his time with the book and how it affected him personally since the last time he saw it. The thing that impacted me the most throughout the video was the use of simile to describe very quotidian and invisible things with more gravitas and make them more vivid. This documentary is very similar to my current project in “Our City Unveiled”  as it through documenting the writings of this notebook unveils parts of our city that have been previously unknown to me and I’m sure many others. Another thing that stuck out to me was how the whole documentary was shown at almost like 80% real-time as if we were being given more time to take everything in.
