PROJECT 3: Exquisite Dream video

Description

In this project, my team and I made a video that was based upon our dreams. For footage, we tried to capture ourselves when we were not looking or paying attention to the camera and did not know we were being recorded.

Summary

This project is a collaboration between the four of us, The Dream Team, if you will, to create a visual compilation and representation of not only our dreams as individuals but dreaming on a whole. We made ourselves a group of onieronauts, recording our dreams, moving through them, digesting them, cutting them apart and putting them back together, admiring what we created along the way.

Progress 10/23/2019

Last week we discussed our personality test results after the dream activity. This led us to discuss our skills and compile a list of who is best equipped to do what. In the dream activity, we wrote some of our dreams down and cut the dreams up into snippets. These snippets were mixed up in a pile and then randomly drawn from to create a new narrative. We could not come up with any exact ideas for the plot of a possible video but we came up with an idea to get inspiration. We all agreed to keep a dream journal for this week and write anything we could down. Now we’re going to put our heads together, write a script and split all our work and start working, or at least that the plan.

11/6 Progress Update

Last week we went to Columbus Circle and shot scenes from my, Taylors and Nias dream respectively using a sony video camera rented from school. At the park some imagery we filmed for me included but is not limited to scaring some pigeons, playing with sand, sitting alone and throwing a water balloon at Taylor. On our way back Nia and Fiona got onto the train first and filmed me from the inside of the train rolling out of the station as I walk after it. Once we met back in the studio classroom we devised a plan to use the green screen to put old-timey cartoons behind us as we do outlandish ridiculous non-realistic things. Lastly, Fiona compiled a rough cut. This week we plan on filling in any gaps within the video and editing it more to get it smooth and flowing.

11/11 Rough Cut

11/13 Final

I learned that I don’t hate shooting video as much as I thought that I did. It’s actually rather fun provided you are interested in the subject matter.  I also played around with different camera lenses that provided different angles.

I also learned a lot about film theory and the words to many concepts that I was already well accustomed to.
