In this project, I explored comic books as modern mythology. To embody Shade the Changing Man I made his Madness Vest and visual effects to enhance that experience.
Shade the Changing Man
How I want to embody this myth is to make a real-life version of Rac Shade’s Madness Vest. I do not however just want to make his jacket. I want to make my own iteration of it. Shade is a mantle that has been past from person to person and the jacket takes a different form for each barer. I want to explore what this jacket might look like if I were taken over by shade and how it might adapt to my life. I also want to make my story slightly humorous and am thinking about using a bathrobe. Shade the Changing Man is really an entity from a world of madness that comes to our world by possessing people who are about to die and taking over their bodies. Usually, these are very dramatic story points such as a criminal on death row or a girl in a coma but I thought it would be funny to make it something super mundane such as someone accidentally falling asleep in their bathtub. Right before fully dying I would get possessed by the said entity and no longer be myself. The first article of clothing that I’d see and grab would be a bathrobe and it would become imbued with the powers of the madness vest, becoming my iteration of it. From there out I will begin exploring and the video will explore that fun little adventure.
